Flam, located in Aurland Municipality in Vestland county, Norway, is a small beautiful village sitting at the end of the Aurlandsfjord, which itself is a branch of Sognefjord.
Beyond its stunning view of mountains and water, Flam is also famous for its Flam Railway, a 20 km/12.5 mile train ride between Myrdal and Flam provides you the views to spectacular nature and historical cultural landscapes, some people even call it the best train ride in Europe.
The Stegastein Lookout sits 650 meter/2132 feet above Aurlandsfjord, it has a man-made observing structure sticking out to give people a better view of the beautiful Aurlandsfjord.
The riding distance from Flam to Stegastein Lookout is around 17.3 km / 10.75 mile, so you can calculate the average grade is about 3.76%. But if you consider the first two-third of the route is ride along the Aurlandsfjord, you can imagine the last one third of the route is very steep.
The good thing is, it is a beautiful route!
